first field trip – folsom zoo

stella got to take her first field trip with a few of her preschool friends. we went to the folsom zoo. it’s a great place that is not your typical zoo, but instead an animal sanctuary for rescued animals.

i didn’t get a lot of photos inside the zoo because, let’s face it, chasing a bunch of 3 year olds around is difficult at best and makes it hard to keep your eye behind a lens. but, look at these cute monkeys outside the zoo!

and stella’s huge wingspan!

button rings by sarah

my good friend sarah is selling button rings. i think they are awesome!

recently i had the privilege of photographing her rings.

here are some of my favorites:

if you are local to sacramento, her rings can be purchased at article consignment.

my baby…she’s “free”

it happened. on sunday. she turned 3. every year, i ask myself. how does this happen? you think i’d learn by now.

but really…how does it happen? it goes by so fast. when you ask her how old she is, she says “i’m free!!!”. i ask her a lot, because it is so cute.

we didn’t have a major party this year. just a few friends at the park. i didn’t even get good photos…too busy playing hostess.

i will be taking some big 3 year old photos this week. hopefully she will oblige.

happy birthday, my sweet stella. we love you!

success!

well, i really did it! i had my first photography show and i made it through the evening without breaking out into hives.

(please don’t say i look like kate gosselin. that wasn’t my intention.)

it was a very successful night all around. i even sold one piece! yay!

courtney featured locally grown food for the reception – which was awesome!

BFD did great and sold lots of things during the opening reception. i’m so happy for them!

congrats tim and courtney. i think this is going to be your year!

a makeover…

i’m contemplating it: a new and improved blog that will showcase my photography. i think it’s time. i’m feeling like a scared little ladybug. but i know i’ll get through it.

i’m taking the dive (well, it’s a dive for me) and attempting to sell some of my photography at a second saturday showing here in town. my good friends are opening a home brewing store and i will have my photography on their walls for the opening reception. i’m nervous. i’ve never done anything like this. everyone tells me “you should sell your photography!” or “you should do this as a living!” – well, i’m going to see where this takes me. one of the biggest hurdles i have is that a majority of the photos i’m proud of are of my kids…can’t exactly sell those.

but, i will have a few of my favorite photos up for sale. this is one of them:

barrels

so, if things start looking a little wonky (that’s a technical term) around here, just hold on…it could be a wild ride, but it’ll be worth it!

(i just realized i wrote this as if anyone is really paying attention…you are, right? the two of you out there that read this thing?! right? anyone? bueller…)

{dramatic}

i_heart_faces_noborder_125x100

the theme this week over at iheartfaces is “dramatic black & white”.

i chose this photo of my hubby john for a couple of reasons. he’s not normally bald. he had just shaved his head for st. baldrick’s day – which is a foundation that raises  money for pediatric cancer research. and i also love all the different textures in the photo and i love LOVE the reflection of the buildings in his shades (this was totally an accident – i didn’t notice when i was shooting the pic.)

head on over to iheartfaces to check out all the other lovely black & white drama!

kisses

i_heart_faces_noborder_125x100

it’s been a while, but i’m back! busy holiday season and a wedding to cater (which i’m no pro at, just a decent cook!) and now i feel like i can breathe again…at least for a bit. i decided to submit for this weeks photo challenge at iheartfaces. the theme is “we heart kisses.” along with catering my nieces wedding, i took the photos for their invitation. we did a photo-strip format and this is one of my favorite photos from the session.

i hope you enjoy it!

autumn beauty

button-photochallenge1

the theme this week at i {heart} faces is “autumn beauty.” i immediately went to this picture in my head. anya was collecting leaves at the state capitol this day and was running and fell down with her “bouquet”. she wasn’t the least bit happy to have me snapping away after she fell – her expression tells it all – but i love this picture. if you look closely, you can see me in the reflection in her left eye. neat!
